WHAT I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED AS POWAY UNIFIED BOARD MEMBER
- Achieved board support for hiring outside interim superintendent and started nationwide search for new superintendent.
- Conducted audit of Superintendent Collins’ contract and compensation.
- Achieved unanimous board support for hiring special counsel to represent the Board of Education.
- Oversaw transition to Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP)
- Created two new board controlled advisory committees – Budget Review Advisory Committee (BRAC) and Education Technology Advisory Committee (ETAC)
- Forged board consensus to contract with California School Boards Association (CSBA) to overhaul outdated Board Policies and Procedures.
- Implemented competitive process (RFQ) for hiring bond financial advisor and bond underwriter that had both previously enjoyed no-bid contracts for two decades.
- Achieved board consensus to create competitive process (RFQ) for district legal counsel.
- Began competitive process for selecting CFD Mello Roos Administrator, after 18+ years with one firm and its’ predecessor.
- Created new, open and public procedure for choosing Board’s appointee to the Personnel Commission.
- Brought down class sizes Kindergarten through 12th grade.
- Restored staff positions districtwide.
- Reduced employee out-of-pocket health insurance costs.
- Provided staff raises.
- Increased funding for PE and visual and performing arts (VAPA)
- Increased funding for robotics programs.
- Supported and approved expansion of Stone Ranch Elementary to relieve overcrowding.
- Worked with Student Support Services to provide additional resources for Youth in Transition and other supports for families in crisis.
